Stunning Car!
The Chevrolet Corvette (C1) is the first generation of the Corvette.
The first Corvette rolled off the production line in 1953 and today, almost seven decades on, American’s only sports car is regarded as a bone fide automotive legend.
The earliest Vettes employed a tuned version of the ‘Blue Flame’ six but in 1955 a small-block V8 was introduced, elevating performance of the lightweight sports roadster to levels that were little short of sensational at the time.
The first-generation Corvette had undergone several significant styling changes by the early ‘60s which included distinctive side coves, a toothy grille then quad headlamps and a profusion of chromed vents and louvres.
Inside the interior was revised with the instruments now grouped together in a binnacle in front of the driver along with a centre console and passenger grab-bar. For the 1960 model year the Corvette was little changed externally but under the skin a significant improvement appeared in the form of a standard rear stabilizer bar and stiffer front stabilizer's bar, which tightened up the handling.
Inside, the seat pattern was changed, along with the door panel design and revised tacho.
Under the bonnet Chevrolet continued to employ the classic small-block 283ci 230hp V8 as the base engine, with power options including a 245 hp dual four-barrel and two versions of its Rochester fuel injected V8, either the 275hp hydraulic-cam RPO 353 or the ultimate solid-lifter 315hp RPO 354.
Standard transmission was a three-speed manual box, with a heavy duty four-speed or Powerglide automatic optional.
The rarest of all 1960 Corvettes are the fuel injected cars, and not surprisingly these are the most desirable of all.
